Scottish Referendum Debate Live Stream at Dynamic Earth

The project

GloCast produced a live stream of an engaging referendum debate between John Swinney MSP and Iain Gray MSP at Edinburgh’s Dynamic Earth. The event was organised by Federation of Small Businesses and the topic was business oriented, with many questions from the audience of small business owners.

What we did

We used one locked-off and two manned cameras, which allowed a variety of angles and shot options for our webcast producer, who live vision mixed the event for the online audience and simultaneously for the HD on-demand recording. By having a camera at the front of the room, we could capture questions from the audience and their reactions to the answers. After the event, we tidied up the footage and uploaded it directly to the client’s YouTube account, which ensured the HD version was available online in less than 24 hours.

We partnered with VisionEvents, who produced an attractive branded backdrop and lighting. Good audience lighting is crucial for live audience questions. By using a high quality lighting setup, we created a real broadcast feel to the event and VisionEvents helped us improve the production values considerably.

We also linked in with the venue’s audio team and equipment, getting a sound feed of the proceedings from their sound desk.

What the client said

During 2014’s Scottish independence referendum, we organised a debate between senior figures from both sides of the debate. We used GloCast to stream this event to FSB members across the UK. We found Arran and his team to be diligent, organised and professional. They understood our needs and played a big part in making the event a great success.
